In September of 2022 our Venice lacrosse community lost one of our own. Named by his parents in honor of legendary jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke, Bix was known as a soft soul, yet fierce competitor. Always ready to help another with a smile on his face. Bix enjoyed traveling with his parents and had an artistic heart gained through years watching his father who was an accomplished trumpet player. Loved by his friends and teammates Bix will always be remembered.

Venice Indians Lacrosse has implemented a prestigious award to be earned by one very special player each season, known as the "BIX SANDKE" award, in honor of Bix and to acknowledge the player that embodies the qualities of handwork, perseverance, and collaborative competition.
